ARE YOU THE ONE WE’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR?!

Not all of this applies for me (don’t know those bands, don’t mind thin lips, bellies aren’t really on my list though I’ll take the beards, I’d say flowers always candy sometimes, etc.) but I still think it’s wonderful (I <3 you mary and friends) and would like the emphasize the asking questions, curiosity, willingness to talk about sex, cute texts, forehead kisses, handholding, and i’m going to stop listing here because I’ll list nearly everything else.

I kinda think this makes it more appealing. a) if only one guy on yelp hated on it, they’re doing well. b) at least they’re sarcastic and funny, so the service will be fun.

A compliment is a compliment, and I’ll take them. They’re sweet and well-intentioned (well, if they are) and as such they make me feel good. However, I’ve noticed a lot that the way we tend to phrase our appearance related compliments is kind of…backhanded almost, though it’s mostly just that it’s what we’re used to. They’re not intended as such.

“I love your dress.”—This one is not always actually intended to mean you look pretty. It really could just be a comment on the pattern or something. Not too problematic I suppose…

“I love that dress on you”—But on anyone else it’d be ugly?

“You look great in that dress”—This one actually bothers me most. You think the person is telling you that you look nice? No, they’re telling you that you wear flattering clothing, not that you yourself are attractive. Do I look bad other times? Try saying ‘you look especially beautiful in that dress’ or ‘you look (especially) beautiful today.’ Or even, more simply (though more ‘out there’ for some reason) ‘you look beautiful’ or even better ‘you are beautiful’

Of course all of this feeds into the societal emphasis on appearance. But that’s too big of a topic for right now, nearly 1AM and on tumblr, which is definitely geared towards the short and pithy. So I’ll stick with this and you can fill in the rest yourself.
